The Legal Assistant provides essential administrative and clerical support to attorneys and legal staff within a busy litigation practice in Kansas City, MO. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, dependable, and comfortable interacting with clients, court personnel, and internal teams.
Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate court dates
Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files
Handle incoming calls, mail, and client communications with professionalism
Assist with time entry, billing, and expense reporting
Coordinate travel arrangements and meeting logistics
Prepare, edit, and format legal documents, correspondence, and forms
Proofread documents for accuracy, grammar, and compliance with court rules
Organize exhibits, binders, and supporting materials for hearings or meetings
Maintain document logs, indexes, and filing systems
Assist with assembling discovery materials and tracking deadlines
Coordinate service of documents, subpoenas, and filings
Maintain case calendars and ensure attorneys are aware of upcoming deadlines
Support attorneys with preparation for hearings, mediations, and client meetings
Prepare and submit electronic filings in state and federal courts
Ensure documents comply with formatting and procedural requirements
Track filing confirmations and maintain accurate records
3+ years of administrative experience in a law firm or legal department
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document management systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines
